Asclepias fascicularis is a perennial that is sought after for its use in butterfly habitats, particularly as a food source for endangered Monarch butterfly caterpillars. The flowers also supply nectar for butterflies and hummingbirds. The flowers are lavender/white with some variation. A true perennial, Asclepias fascicularis goes completely dormant in the winter months and is often late emerging in the spring. When dormant, there is typically no visible above ground growth. It often just looks like a container of dirt with roots but after it emerges it become a Monarch butterfly magnet. An excellent way to encourage Monarch butterfly habitat restoration.
